Jesica J. Brakken Torres

I am a Colombian artist who studied art for 10 years in Washington DC at Georgetown University and Montgomery College and later back in Colombia at Los Andes University. I have recently moved back to the United States to pursue my dreams in the Miami art world.

ÓPYAVOV

Was born as a result of my experience in the field of art. Drawing, engraving and painting itself have been my strong motivators when creating from a plastic perspective a new way of posing the canvas. The possibility of opening myself to the experiences that I have had throughout my life have allowed me to consolidate my work as an artist. Different fields of knowledge enrich me and give a more critical point of view, supporting each of my works.  Uniting my artistic, organic knowledge with biology and other areas of knowledge, has been fundamental for the elaboration of my work.

This is how Ópyavov is born in my mind, which is the union of different artistic experiences as well as of life itself, in which I have had the possibility of being a creator and spectator. This series is a set of visual thoughts, mixed techniques that go beyond the figurative or academic. It is one way or another, the material itself, in which I try to cleanly and respectfully remove the purity of its components.

In Ópyavov, the canvas is exalted to the same, ceasing to be a support to become sinuous and organic forms. The line that is created in each canvas is unique, and that reinforces its identity and authenticity, since it is almost impossible to repeat an exact line to the other.

On the other hand, the play of light allows the interaction between the lines of the threads and the shadows of the wall, which recreates lines that generate all kinds of images and figures, which recall the pencil drawing. The drawing is very important in my work, since initially I use tools that subtract the raw material from the canvas in a random way, but always trying to follow certain lines that are previously intertwined to create the fabric. It is the line that is fundamental in the drawing, at the same time that the line is the fundamental thing in Ópyavov, it is thanks to these lines that on the canvas some type of images that recreate abstract and organic drawings are recreated. Painting is implicit in this work, clearly not with the pigments that we have known for years, but by those graphic representations that through the lines, shadows and color of the canvas form organic objects that together create the image. In this series I use a pictorial composition to create a image on the canvas, which is previously thought, so as to be able to form an organic that takes me to the studies of matter and nature.

Maybe this Series enters the textile field but in reality it has not left that territory that belongs to the painting. So it is difficult to see a specific image in each picture you can see the landscapes we see in the Colombian prairies, the nature that surrounds us, the growth structures found in a laboratory to create something beautiful to observe on each piece of canvas .
